My Sydney Australia page is at the most advanced stage of construction, but I have started a few other pages. All the pages will be improved shortly!
Nome, a city with approximately 3000 people, quickly grew to well over 10,000 people after being founded around 1901 owing to the gold rush. Lots of abandoned equipment from those days can still be found around town. Cape Nome, which the town is named after, received it's name after the poor handwritting on a surveyor's map marking "Cape Name?" was misread .
Nome is said to become very crowded around early March or so when the Iditarod race comes into town. It is a dogsled race commemorating the real life race to get vaccine into Nome during a deadly epidemic.
The people of Nome are very friendly. They will sometimes engage in conversation with you if you walk on the main street.
