The Land of Temples

Friendly people

What happened to their smiles?
The people were very friendly. The ladies with their thanaka painted faces and the men in their longyi skirts were truly an exotic sight. People would come and ask me to take pictures with them and of them. The funny part is that their smiles would disappear when in front of the camera, as if displaying happiness on film is a bad thing.

Handicrafts

The craftswomen do incredible work. The colors and work that go into producing these beautiful tapestries are beyond imagination.

An iconic hotel

While I didnt stay at the Strand, I had to have a drink at the bar. One of my passtimes is visiting grand colonial hotels, and having a cocktail at the bar. Sarkies Brothers properties are high on my list, and I visit them every chance I get.

Pros:"The people"
Cons:"The oppressive government"
In A Nutshell:"Go. You can do more good for the people of Myanmar by being there. It is also very rewarding personally."
