Rushing to see as much of Beijing as possible

by calcaf38 - last update: Mar 5, 2006

My personal preferences

Lama Temple
I spent three and a half days in Beijing in January.

You shouldn't spend a minute less than that.

I managed to see, in order of my preference:

- The Summer Palace
- The Lama Temple
- The Hutong
- Bei Hai Park and the Lakes
- The Forbidden City
- The Great Wall at Mutianyu
- The Temple of Heaven

I did some shopping at Liulichang and Dazhalan.

And I went to the Opera too.

A great book to discover Beijing by

I recommend reading Rickshaw by Lao She to enjoy Beijing even more. A deep and probing look inside the soul of an unarticulate man, this is a very special novel.

Pros:"Monuments, Parks, People and Food!"
Cons:"Lots of construction, and bland modern structures."
In A Nutshell:"I would move to Beijing tomorrow if I could"

Delightful, delicious page. It makes the place less scarily foreign, really. Well done :-)

A very enjoyable tour of Beijing, thank you very much! Good thinking to have a local guide to maximize your short time in the city. Beautiful photos of the exotic attractions and helpful tips as always.
