Sintra with rain showers and blustery wind | Pena Palace seen from Moors Castle |
Sintra is lovely, but it is a 100% touristic destination, like Mont St. Michel for instance. I stayed about 24h there, including a peaceful night at the Lawrence's Hotel. As in Lisbon, I was pursued by bad weather, sudden downpours and wild windshear. The Pena Palace was creaking from the howling wind during my visit. But at least, Sintra was not crowded. I barely can imagine balmy Sintra overrun with buses in the Summer.
The most important hint of all: Take the bus to the Pena Castle, and walk down back to town via the Moors Castle. It is a nice manageable hike. |
