France

by calcaf38 - last update: Dec 13, 2008

I wasn't able to go on a "real" trip in 2008, but I did visit my family in Paris and in Provence. This wasn't traveling the way you and I understand it: you can't write a "Warnings or Dangers" tip about your own sister's apartment or your aunt's views on Hillary Clinton. Still, to keep in practice, I built a small Paris page and a mid-size Provence page.

Some days, I almost wish I could visit France as a tourist, discovering regions I don't know such as Alsace, or the Nord, or the Sud-Ouest. But how can I possibly? Can I call my maman: "I'm flying over, but I'm not visiting you..."?

In any case, France is almost too polished for me. I miss the "shock" of heavy-duty traveling in such a civilized environment. But there is no denying the beauty, the variety, and the magic of France, a wonderful place to visit.

Pros:"History - Food - Art - Landscapes - Bidets"
Cons:"Racism - Cost - Somewhat unsmiling people"
In A Nutshell:"They think they are the center of the world, and maybe they are..."

Maybe this will be the year that I finally make it down to Aix for the opera festival in July. (OK, I say that every year, but this year I am somewhat more serious about it than usual.)

An original opening photo for a France page, indeed. It's one of my favourite countries, almost to the exclusion of other holiday destinations.

Lovely photo. Aix is a gem. Where is Opède-l'Ancien? It sounded interesting.

I LIKE France! Forgot to say, I don't want to go anyplace unduly hilly or mountainous, which is why I decided againt Bolivia! I could, however, deal with Balkan cities! This is so hard, really! Georgia spoils everything for furture destinations!
