During my visit, I spent all my time in the Historic Center of Quito. This district is, naturally, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the political center of the nation. Yet, it doesn't feel gentrified or otherwise gussied up. There are few hotels, few restaurants geared toward foreigners, and no souvenir shops. Tourists tend to congregate in another part of the city nicknamed Gringolandia. Thanks for the warning.
Two days are enough to cover the Historic Center, but I imagine it could be pleasurable to live there as well.
The elevation of Quito is 2,850m or 9,350 ft |
