Get away from the cold and snow and warm up in the valley of the sun!
Casa Grande, Az - Hohokam Settlement

The first settlers...

The salt river valley where Phoenix now stands was orignally settled by the Hohokam indians from 300 bc until 1500 ad. The Hohokam built hundreds of miles of sophisticated canals to carry water and turn the desert into an agricultural oasis.

The Hohokam then vanished. The name Hohokam comes from later indian tribes and means "All Used Up" or "The Departed Ones".

Phoenix is reborn...

The valley was empty do to lack of water until the United States Army built Fort McDowell nearby in 1876.

The Hohokam canals were rediscovered and repaired. The new community of Phoenix in the nearby mountains in 1876. As a means to feed the cadre of troops, the canals were re-established, which allowed a new city to "rise like a phoenix" from the remains of an ancient civilization.

Today Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the United States. Sitting in the center of Arizona, it is the perfect home base to a western adventure as the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Tombstone, and Tucson are all nearby.

After reading your page on the scorch bar, my husband and I decided to check it out and well we dressed up and EVERYONE was in jeans or shorts!! we felt really out of place. Oh and no gogo dancers either. Have you even been to that bar?
