Luggage And Bags: Take along a small backpack with water. remember to take small locks for the zippers to avoid having it opened. Many people carry their backpacks on the front to avoid theft from behind
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: comfy shoes or sandals in the summer. Take a small umbrella in the backpack.
a disposable poncho is always a good idea as well.
Toiletries & Medical Supplies: Have extra euro coins for toilets, as most will cost a donation of about 50 cents euro
Make sure you bring all necessary medications because you may not be able to find refills.
Also, remember that italian brands are different. American brand items will cost more in Italy.
Photo Equipment: Extra film will be handy, and save you some money, as will any power converters for 110V items you need to recharge. Most digital cameras, however, are dual voltage. An italian two plug adapter or two will come in handy
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: nothing special comes to mind
Miscellaneous: money belt. If you have a fanny pack, make sure you have safety pins for the zipper to attach it to the material. This will help prevent theft. Gypsies WILL go for inside your front pockets as well. Trust me, they tried on me, but I managed to beat them off.
