Nina Ridge

by ginalynne - last update: Apr 7, 2007

Nina Ridge (pronounced Ny-nah) is a community near Lancaster in rural Garrard County, Kentucky.... very rural Garrard County. My grandparents own a small country store here. The original store was an old school built around 1911. Unfortunately, a devastating fire in February 2004 destroyed the original building. My family rebuilt the store themselves, no contractors. We are now back in business! Although I doubt many people plan vacations in this area, if you do, stop by and enjoy the scenery, food, and local residents. Believe it or not, the residents of The Ridge include published authors, international criminal justice experts, sociologists, winery owners, horse breeders, Harley bikers, war (WW II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq/Afghanistan) heroes and many colorful local farmers. This is one place where you're likely to see an old man wearing overalls carrying a cell phone in his bib.

Dining

Although the new store was built to look like the original, it is nearly three times larger. The main room, however, was built to the same specifications as the original. It's a cozy enclave in the much larger structure. Behind this room is a dining room that seats about a dozen people. Outside is a large deck where customers like to gather on warm days. Did I mention we're wheelchair accessible?

The kitchen

This is the small kitchen where you can order any number of hot or cold sandwiches. Everyday brings a different special, depending on what "Ma Frida" is in the mood to cook. There are often leftovers, so dining here is a bit like being at home where you can raid the fridge at will. The coffee is always hot and the pop is teeth-bustin' cold.
