Alternative vacation

I visited the Taizé community in summer 2002 after hearing positive stories over and over again from various friends. I can tell you many things about that single week I stayed, but doubt to be able to transfer the experience properly. Taizé has had a considerable impact upon my life and views and will probably continue to do so.
The brothers of the oecumenical order that reside there have created an open, joyfull and sanctified atmosphere where international youth is invited to meet, share insights and discover or celebrate their feelings about God.
Entrance is open to all willing to participate in the week-rythm (including some volunteer work, prayer, regular eating-hours).

Pros and Cons

Pros:Meeting people, enjoying spirituality, leaving 'civilisation'
Cons:less fit for single traveller. Must be open to religion, and participate in programme. Simple and sparse food.

Were you / Are you Christian ??Now/orbefore your visit ??? Will we be able to venture out of the compound to visit the surrounding area - now and again?? or is that taboo ???
