| Parliament Hill and Ottawa River |
In july 2000 I spent a few days of my Canada holidays in Ottawa, the capital city. Ottawa is situated on the Ontario/Quebec border, therefore it has a mixture of french and english cultures.
The shores of the Ottawa River, Rideau River and the Rideau Canal with its locks are brilliant for idyllic walks.
Ottawa offers classical architecture (e.g. Parliament Bulidings) as well as ultramodern designed buildings (e.g. National Gallery). Especially the Parliament buildings with the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill are worth a visit.
Last but not least Ottawa has plenty of shops and the Byward Market, which is loaded with cafes, bars, restaurants and market stalls.

toonsarah Fri Sep 25, 2009 16:30 UTC An interesting page Holger. The Parliament and the Changing the Guard ceremony are rather like here in London, but it seems such a nice compact city compared with mine :-) | globetrott Sun Apr 26, 2009 11:41 UTC an interesting page, thanks for sharing, Holger ! | LoriPori Mon Feb 23, 2009 11:46 UTC Glad to see that you have visited our nation's capital.
