"Rigi - Queen of the Swiss mountains" Rigi by HORSCHECK
Rigi Travel Guide: 19 reviews and 44 photos
On a sunny day at the beginning of October 2011 we took the chance to take a day trip from Zurich to the Rigi Mountain, which is often refered to as "Queen of the Swiss mountains".
The top of the Rigi can be reached by two cog railways from both Arth-Goldau and Vitznau. The whole mountain plateau and the surroundig area is a popular hiking and recreation region in Central Switzerland.
The highest peak at approximately 1797 m offers 360 degree panoramic views of the lakes Zugersee and Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstätter See). Depending on the weather it is even possible to see parts of France and Germany.
"We climbed and climbed; and we kept on climbing; we reached about forty summits, but there was always another one just ahead."
--- Mark Twain, A Tramp Abroad ---
- Pros:Great hiking trails and panoramic views.
- Cons:Crowded on sunny days.
- In a nutshell:Queen of the Swiss mountains.

Rigi looks like a very interesting place to explore and to get some exercise while you are at it! Beautiful photos of the very picturesque landscape from your perch high above at Rigi Kulm. Thanks for the tour!
What a beautiful place!
Looks like another great place to go walking in the Alps. I saw some of those silver thistles in Austria last week and wondered what they were - now I know, thanks.
What a lovely and informative page! The views are stupendous.Unfortunately when we were there two weeks ago we were advised that the weather conditions would make the trip a rather expensive disappointment. Friends who took the trip agreed! I will enjoy your page all the more.
Hi Holger, thanks for visiting my little Hereford page. I've been researching Switzerland recently so I read this page with interest. The views of Lake Luzern from here look awesome, a truly great area to hike for sure!
What a wonderful view from the Vantage Point and also so many beautiful little chapels.
Nice page Holger.
I like the look of that little train.
Nice page! Vantage point Känzeli allows to see amazing views of landscape! I always look to mountains as a special place, as we don't have so high landscape in Lithuania (highest is 293 meters:D
Lovely views, beautiful weather, delicious desserts - I wouldn't need much else ( perhaps only good company which i hope you had) to enjoy a trip. Rigi looks perfect.
A great cocktail as I like : cogwheel trains, mountain, panoramic views, hiking and ice cream with crème chantille on the way up ;-)
