We arrived in Zermatt around midday without having booked any accomodation in advance. So we directly popped into the tourist information office which is located right next to the train station. Although it was a lovely August weekend and the international Matterhorn run was scheduled we didn't have any problems to get a room. The helpful guy gave us a list of hotels in our price range and we eventually decided for the Hotel Elite which we called by freephone from the Tourist Information. It is a 3-starred centrally located hotel. Our room was spacious and even had a balcony with a view of the Matterhorn. The price for the doubleroom in mid season was 176,00 CHF (about 110 Euro; 2007). A large buffet style breakfast was included in the price.
