In May 2007 we flew via Prague to Kosice from where we started our trip through the Slovakian part of the High Tatry. Afterwards we spent one night in Kosice and headed off by train to the Ukraine.
With about 250.000 inhabitants it is Slovkia's second biggest city and also among the oldest in the country. Kosice has a long and rich history. The well-preserved historical city centre is dominated by the 14th century Gothic St. Elisabeth Cathedral.
Other sights worth seeing include the Neo-Baroque State Theatre, the Chapel of St. Michael, the Urban's Tower and the Art Nouveau building Slavia just to name a few.
Having a university with more than 15.000 students, Kosice has got many pubs, cafes and a lively nightlife.
"I'm taking my thoughts to a railway station. Put 'em on a train just to see what's coming back."
--- Jim Reid ---
- Pros:Well preserved city centre with many historic sights.
- Cons:Risk of grey or rainy weather.
- In a nutshell:Metropolis of Eastern Slovakia.

From your tips and photo's, Kosice looks like an interesting town to pay a visit.
I was most impressed by the Elizabeth church, (i'm a bit partial to gothic churches) and Jakobs palace looked interesting. good complete overview, especially the practical information.
Kosice looks beautiful with all the art deco buildings. I really like the State Theatre and Jakob's Palace. Great transportation info. Have enjoyed my virtual tour of Kosice. Thanks Holger & hope to see you in Torremolinos. Ole'
Good page about Kosice. I was consider to visit it before as a friend of mine told me about some nice caves in East SK, so Kosice would be great for a stop over I think.
Beautiful architecture. Interesting, also, to travel to from Budapest.
Impressive architecture, especially the State Theatre, Old Town Hall, Palace..The 2 Italian restaurants certainly were at the opposite spectrum as far as quality; enjoyed the honest critiques. Loved War Memorial, Synagogue, Cathedral & other churches.
Thanks for your nice comment. Your weather looks better then mine...... Wish you a good Christmas and happy 2009 !!!!
