After one week in St. Petersburg, Moscow was the second stop on my Russian adventure in summer 2005. I spent 8 days in the busy Russian capital which has an estimated population of 12 Million and is the biggest city in Europe.
Standing on the famous Red Square which is surrounded by the the Kremlin, the Lenin Mausoleum, St. Basil's Cathedral, the State Department Store GUM and the Historical Museum you are given an idea of the historical and political importance of Moscow. Among the other sights I visited were the All-Russian Exhibition Centre VVT, the Space Obelisk, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and the View Point on Sparrow Hills including the Moscow State University.
Apart from that I visited a few suburbs of Moscow like Ostankino with the TV-Tower and Izmaylovo with a popular market and a hotel complex of the 1980 Olympics.
I also attended a match of the Russian football league. CSKA Moscow, winner of the UEFA Cup 2005, was facing Dinamo Moscow in the venerable Dinamo Stadium.

starship Thu Oct 29, 2009 16:49 UTC Fantastic page with so much great information. Your photos are superb. Surprised the homestay was so expensive & that foreigners are unfairly charged higher prices, but would love to visit Moscow. | globetrott Sat Oct 24, 2009 13:15 UTC an excellent page bringing back great memories, thanks for sharing Holger ! Die CD der "Gebrüder Grimm" finde ich originell, auch dass es offensichtlich eher Schwestern sind;-)) | angiebabe Sat Oct 24, 2009 11:29 UTC Excellent page Holger - shame around the ban on photos down in the must-see Metro! I need to get my 1st visit to Russia in before too long! | Nemorino Fri Oct 2, 2009 23:22 UTC Hi Holger, I can't believe it's been over four years since I last looked at your Moscow page. You've added LOTS of fine new tips since then, and updated most of the others. I think I've read about people who lived in that "House on the Embankment". |
