On my Poland trip in December 2004 and January 2005 I stayed 4 days in Krakow; including a daytrip to the ski resort Zakopane in the High Tatras. Krakow is situated at the Vistula River (Wisla) and has a population of 750.000 inhabitants.
The city seems to become one of the top tourist destinations in Central and Eastern Europe. Most sights can be found in and around the well preserved Old Town, which is now on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Besides the delights of the Old Town, I visited the grey suburb Nowa Huta. The entirely planned social-realist city is a good reminder of Krakow's communist past.
On New Years Day I attended the traditional friendly football match between Cracovia's first and second team. Cracovia is Poland's oldest football club.
