Mdina Travel Guide: 280 reviews and 847 photos

We visited Mdina, the old capital of Malta, during a day trip from Valletta, which was our home base on the island for one week in November 2010.

On this day trip we also explored the steep cliffs near Dingli, the prehistoric cart ruts known as Clapham Junction, the woodlands of the Buskett Gardens and Mdina's former suburb Rabat.

Mdina is situated on a hill in the centre of Malta and can be reached from Valetta by bus in about half an hour. It is known as an ancient walled city, where nowadays only up to 250 people live.

Among the main sights are the St. Paul's Cathedral, the Carmelite Church, the St. Agatha's Chapel as well as the Main and the Greek Gate.

"Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realise they were the big things."
--- Robert Brault ---

Hi Holger, I enjoyed reading your page about Mdina, it looks like a beautiful place! Kinnie sounds delicious! The old busses look so quirky, it must be a fun experience :-)

Mdina and the surroundings sounds to be a nice daytrip to do from Valetta. I think I would enjoy a cold Kinnie on a warm summer day.

Holger, excellent page on Mdina. Brings back memories of my last visit. Unfortunately I didn't get to see a lot of the town as it was sooo hot. Just relaxed and took in the amazing views over the island- and saw some stray cats too!

This looks a very interesting old town to visit, and you seem to have had beautiful weather judging by your photos :-) That cliff scenery is great, and I like the sound of the Kinnie. Oh, and cute cat too :-)
