Monastery of Saint Naum - Ohrid

Monastery of Saint Naum

Side trip to Saint Naum st. naum Review

Saint Naum mainly consists of a monastery of the same name. The history of the Monastery of Saint Naum dates back to the 9th century, when it was built by Saint Naum of Ohrid.

Like Saint Clement, also Saint Naum of Ohrid was a disciple of Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius. Saint Naum was buried in his monastery in 910.

During the Ottoman era the monastery was completely destroyed; so the current structure dates back to the 16th and 17th century. The frescoes, which show scenes from the life of Saint Naum, have been painted in 1806.

The entrance fee to the monastery cost 100 MKD (approx. 1,70 Euro).

Directions:
Saint Naum is located at Lake Ohrid, about 30 km south of Ohrid, just near the Macedonian Albanian border. We visited the place during the 7th VT Euromeet on a bus tour. I have read that the route is also served by public buses.

Inside the Bay of the Bones Museum - Ohrid

Inside the Bay of the Bones Museum

Side trip to the Bay of the Bones Museum outside ohrid Review

The Bay of the Bones Museum is an open air museum showing an authentic reconstruction of a pile dwellings settlement.

The history of such a city on wooden pillars dates back to the years between 1200 to 700 before Christ.

The existence of this kind of settlement on Lake Ohrid has been proved during archaelogical researchs.

Since 1997 more than 6000 wooden pilars and similar artefacts have been found in the lake.

The entrance to the Bay of the Bones Museum cost 100 MKD (approx. 1,70 Euro)

Directions:
The Bay of the Bones Museum is situated approximately 14 km south of Ohrid near the campsite Gradisthe. We visited the place during the 7th VT Euromeet on a bus tour. A large parking lot can be found just in front of the museum.
