Explore Luxembourg on foot Per pedes Review

Although Luxembourg is divided by steep cliffs into an upper and a lower part of the town it is still small enough to be best explored on foot.

You just have to make sure that you wear proper walking shoes as Luxembourg's city centre consists of many cobblestoned streets and squares.

The photo shows the sculpture "La Temperance" by Niki de Saint Phalle. It can be found at the northern end of the Place Emile Hamilius. The sculpture was erected in 1995 when Luxembourg was European Capital of Culture.

Grund Lift

The cobblestoned Grund district in Luxembourg's lower town is connected with the upper town by a free lift, which descends through the cliff.

Using the lift saves you a lot of energy when exploring both the upper and lower parts of the city.

The base of the lift can be found in a tunnel near the western end of the Bisserwee bridge.

There are free toilts as well. The lift leads up to the Place Du St. Esprit at the south eastern end of the city centre.

Although I didn't use the train in Luxembourg I have been to the train station quite a few times as it was located only 5 minutes on foot from our hotel.

My friend arrived by train from Switzerland.

Luxembourg has direct train connections to the following international cities Zurich (CH, 5 h), Paris (F, 2 h), Brussels (B, 3h) and Cologne (D, 3,5 h).

The main train station is situated about 1,5 km south of Luxembourg's city centre.

To Luxembourg by car Drive your car... Review

I went to Luxembourg by car from West Germany. The distance between Cologne and Luxembourg is approximately 230 km and the best route leads via the E-road E44 along Koblenz and Trier.

All roads in Luxembourg are very well maintained and petrol is about 15 to 20 % cheaper than in most neighbouring countries.
