Favorite Thing: Many churches can be found in and around Luxembourg's city centre. I have listed some of them under "Things to do". Other churches well worth seeing include the following ones: The twin towered Saint Alphonse Church is located in the city centre at Rue des Capucins 32. The yellow church is of Catholic denomination. The Saint Jean Baptiste Church belongs to the former Neumünster Abbey complex. It got its first mention in the early 14th century, whereas its present shape dates from the late 17th century. It is situated in the Grund district. Just north west of the city centre and opposite to the Norte Dame cemterey a lovely Catholic chapel can be found. Its name is Chapelle du Glacis.

General Tips: Bridges of Luxembourg

Favorite Thing: Luxembourg is said to have almost 100 bridges. This is mainly caused by its location high above the Alzette and Petrusse river valleys. The red sandstone Castle Bridge was built in 1735 and totally restored in 1992/93. It can be found near the Bock casemates. The 308 m long Pont Viaduct is also known as "Old Bridge" and it was opened in 1961. It spans the Petrusse valley and links the city centre with today's Gare district. Luxembourg's "New Bridge" is the famous Pont Adolphe which also spans the Petrusse valley. With 211 m in length and 46 m in height it was at the time of construction in 1903 the largest stone bridge in the world. One of the smaller, but very picturesque bridges is the footbridge Stiechen. The history of this stone bridge dates back to the lates 14th century. The Stiechen is situated right underneath the Bock casemates.

Favorite Thing: The so called Wenzel Circular Walk is a good way to explore Luxembourg's oldest parts in about 2 hours. The walk is named after Wenceslas II Duke of Luxembourg and leads along many historic sights. Among them are the Bock Casemates, the Castle Bridge, the Grund Gate, the Wenzel Wall, the Neumünster Abbey and the Rham Plateau. The Wenzel Circular Walk is well signposted by metal plates in the ground. A brochure about the walk is available at the Tourist Information Office.
