BKV ticket inspectors

When using public transport in Budapest make sure that you always have a validated ticket. Ticket inspections are carried out quite often. During my 6 days in Budapest (2003) I ran twice into a ticket inspection in the metro stations. The BKV Ticket inspectors usually wear a red armband. Luckily I had a valid ticket available ... :-)

Traffic and cars

The traffic in Budapest is somewhat chaotic. If the traffic is not jamming on the main roads, then the drivers go very fast.
Foreign cars are often stolen in Budapest. On my flight back home in June 2003, I sat next to a German guy whose new VW Sharan was stolen while he was enjoying a BBQ. The police told him that VW are the most stolen cars in Hungary...

Closed restaurants on Sundays

Many local restaurants seem to be closed on Sundays, even in the high season. On our Sunday VT meeting we were looking for a nice place to dine in the evening. As far as I remember we saw 3 "Sundays closed" places.
Nevertheless, by chance we found a very nice restaurant for our VT dinner. Of course most touristy restaurants are opened on Sundays either.
