On my second day of my first trip to Budapest I was out for dinner with VT member littlebear and IngaA. We had delicious Hungarian meals with a bottle of Hungarian red wine at the Tukory Etterem. It has a small roofed terrace on the pavement and a kind of pub inside the building.
They serve Hungarian style dishes for affordable prices. If you like to have the bill just say: "Kerem a szamlat!" which is Hungarian for the "The bill please".

Historia Etterem of Hotel Hold Hotel Hold: Historia Restaurant, Intermezzo Cafe Review

I attended a fabulous VT meeting in Budapest on Sunday 22nd June 2003. Unfortunatly, many restaurants seem to be closed on Sundays, but by chance we found Historia Etterem of Hotel Hold.
This restaurant has a very nice open-air terrace in the inner court of the Hotel. They serve both local and international dishes for reasonable prices.

Mozaik Etterem

This stylish restaurant offers both Hungarian and international cuisine for reasonable prices. The portions are not as big as in other Hungarian restaurants, but the arrangement of the dishes is done with style.

Fatal - The Budapest Restaurant Fatal Restaurant Review

On my first day in Budapest VT member Nykaenen and me met for a dinner VT meeting. After checking a few restaurants we decided to go to Fatal, where Nykaenen had already been before.
Fatal is Hungarian for "wooden plate", which is what they usually place under your dish here. The restaurant is a bit touristy, but the Hungarian portions are big, tasty and affordable.

Directions: Fatal has a sign on Vaci utca (main shopping street of Budapest) but the entrance is just off Pinter utca.

Paprika Etterem

In summer 2004 our local German newspaper reported about two interrail travellers who explored East and Central Europe by train. Among other towns, they visited Budapest and recommended the Hungarian restaurant Paprika. We gave it a try on our trip and enjoyed the excellent food. Prices are reasonable and the portions are probably the biggest in Budapest.
So make sure you are hungry when coming here ... :o)

Mc Donald's Nyugati

This Mc Donald's fast food restaurant is mentioned in many guide books as the most beautful Mc Donald's of the world. This description has made us curious, therefore we popped in to get a glimpse of it. In fact, it is worth seeing compared with the usual sort of Mc Donald's style.

Directions: Mc Donalds's Nyugati is situated in the same building as the 19th century train station Nyugati Palyaudvar.

Cafe Gerbeaud Gerbeaud House Review

The Cafe Gerbeaud is probably the most famous cafe in Hungary. Its tradition dates back to 1858, when it was established by Henrik Kugler. The 19th century building is beautifully illuminated at night.
Inside up to 300 guests can enjoy their coffee and cakes. On sunny days Cafe Gerbeaud has a nice terrace to Vorosmarty ter, which is just perfect for people watching ... :o)

Directions: The Cafe Gerbeaud is located in the very heart of Budapest, just at the busy pedestrianised Vorosmarty ter.
