| Old Town from Toompea Hill |
I explored the south of Finland and the Baltic States in July 2002. I spent 4 days of this trip in Tallinn (population: 420.000) which is the capital of Estonia.
Tallinn is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe, therefore the beautifully restored Old Town (Vanalinn) with its many turrets, walls, churches and cobbled streets is well worth seeing. The old town is surrounded by a modern downtown area.
A visit to one of the grey apartment-block suburbs in the outskirts shows a very different side of Tallinn compared to the charm of the old town.
Tallinn has many shops, cosy cafes and plenty of restaurants. Going outside the touristic town centre everything becomes even cheaper.

Really enjoyed my stay there...helped nicely along with a fair few Sakus ;) | codrutz Mon Jun 15, 2009 09:16 UTC I have to visit the Baltic States also.
