Getting TO/AROUND: Ruzyne Airport (Prague International Airport) is located about 20 km northwest of the city centre.
The cheapest option to get into the centre is by local bus No. 119. It runs from the airport to Dejvicka, which is the metro terminus of the green line. A single ticket is valid for the full journey to the centre by bus and metro. The whole trip takes between 30 and 45 minutes.

Getting TO/AROUND: Prague has two important stations. The main station is Praha hlavni nadrazi where most international trains arrive. Trains arriving from the north or west also stop at Praha Holesovice, which is located north of the city centre.

Both stations have connections to the metro. Prague is served by direct trains from e.g. Hamburg, Dresden, Munich, Vienna, Zurich or Budapest.

I arrived in Prague by train from Dresden in Germany. The trip took about 2,5 h and the ticket was 24,60 Euro (2003).

Getting TO/AROUND: The Metro system of Prague has three lines (A-green, B-yellow, C-red) with 3 interchange stations in the city centre. The metro can be used only with a pre-purchased ticket or pass which are available at selcted metro stations and news agents. The ticket has to be validated before boarding. The metro operates daily between 5:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

Getting TO/AROUND: Prague has about 500 km of tram tracks. There are frequent daytime trams which operate every 10 mins and night services (numbers 51 to 58) with intervals of about 30 mins. A trip by tram 22 offers a nice overview of the city (See my General Tip).

Getting TO/AROUND: The centre of Prague is best explored on foot. The area around the Charles Bridge (Karluv most), the Old Town Hall Square (Staromestske namesti) and the Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske namesti) offers plenty of interesting buildings and sights which can be best enjoyed on a stroll.

Hans and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Prague. It's such a wonderful city - so much to see and do. I don't think I've ever walked so much in one city. Informative page Holger.

We visited Prague in 1980 - I imagine it's changed a lot since then though your tips & photos reminded me of several sights I remember, and others I'd forgotten ;)

Thanks to show us Prague. Tram 22 is a good tip for crossing the town, Tram 11 is better to have a real Pils (lol) Greetz and happy X-mas
