The old Charles Bridge (Karluv most) is probably the most famous sight of Prague. The bridge was constructed in 1357 by Charles IV. and the many statues were added during the 17th century. The cobbled bridge is packed with tourists all day and perfect for people watching ... ;-)

On a clear day or night the two gothic towers of the Charles Bridge offer magnificient views of the bridge with its touristy craft stalls and street performers. Moreover great views of the Castle and the Old Town can be enjoyed from here. During the summer months the Towers are open to the public from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.

The Old Town Hall (Staromestska radnice) was build after 1338. The Town Hall Square with the Tyn Cathedral and the St. Nicolas Church can be seen best from the top of the Old Town Hall Tower (70 m) . The entrance fee is 40 CZK (09.2003).

The Astronomical Clock at the Old Town Hall is a masterpiece of the early 15th century. Every full hour during the day tourists meet here to admire the "Apostel Parade" in the top part of the clock. The bottom part of the clock includes a calendarium and the zodiac signs.

The 14th-century Tyn Cathedral (Tynsky chram) is an impressive Gothic church with Baroque interior. It contains the tombstone of the famous danish astronomer Tycho Brahe. The two towers of the Church are 80 m high.

Prague Castle (Prazsky hrad) is a complex of about 60 buildings, churches and palaces including the St. Vitus Cathedral and the Golden Lane. The castle was founded in the 9th century as the home of Czech princes and kings. Nowadays it is the residence of the Czech presidents.

Directions: Prague Castle can be reached on foot by a steep climb from Malostranske namesti. Another option are the trams No. 22 and 23 which have a few stops just behind the castle area (e.g. Prazsky hrad). Metro: Malostranska (line A)

This picturesque street is part of the castle area. In the past these tiny houses were inhabited by the castle servants. Nowadays the dwellings house tourist shops and cafes. The house No. 22 was inhabited by the sister of writer Franz Kafka.

The Jewish Quarter (Josefov) in Prague used to be one of the largest Jewish communities in Europe. The history of the area dates back to the 11th century. It contains many interesting buildings, synagoges and one of Europe's oldest Jewish cemeteries (1478).

The famous Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske namesti) was originally a horse market. The horse statue of Josef Vaclav Myslbek (1912) at the top of the square reminds of that time. Nowadays it is a busy boulevard with hotels, casinos, cafes and shops. It measures about 750 metres in length and 60 metres in width.
