Airplane: To Zagreb by plane

Getting TO/AROUND: I arrived Zagreb by plane from Germany. The airport of Zagreb (Zracna luka Zagreb) is situated 17 km southeast of the city centre. It is a very small airport with arrivals and depatures on just one floor.
The only option to get into town by public transportation are the buses of Croatian Airlines. Every 30 mins they serve a route to the main bus station (autobusni kolodvar). The price is 25 Kunas (2004).

Getting TO/AROUND: I left Zagreb by train to Ljubljana. The main train station Glavni Koldvor is an important train station for trains between Western and Central Europe. Some of the international connections lead to Munich, Vienna, Venice, Athens or Budapest. It is only a 10 minute walk from the train station to the main square (Jelacic Square).

Getting TO/AROUND: Zagreb has a very good tram network, including night trams. It covers almost all interesting places of the city.
Single or day tickets can be purchased from kiosks for 6,5 kn or 18 kn. They are more expensive when bought from the driver. All tickets must be stamped when boarding a tram.

Other: Explore Zagreb by Funicular Railway
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Other
Getting TO/AROUND: Zagreb is home of a very short funicular railway (uspinjaca) which was built in 1891. It connects the Lotrscak Tower in the Upper Town with the middle of Ilica Street in the Lower Town. Ilica Street is Zagreb's longest street starting in the city centre with shops, cafes and restaurants and leading to the western suburbs of Zagreb.

So you missed the match but saw so much of Zagreb :) I would like the architecture and the parks - maybe on day I too can wander here!

Have thoroughly enjoyed reading about and seeing Zagreb with you. I like the sound of a Kremsnita and coffee, and perhaps even more a Ozujsko Pivo! Great night shots too, and how nice of that guard to let you see the stadium :)
