  • Favorite Thing: As it gets dark relatively early in Zagreb, you shouldn't miss a stroll around the town in darkness. Some historical buildings and squares of Zagreb are beautifully illuminated at night. Among them is the Jelacic Square, the Croatian National Theatre and the Fortification Towers near the cathedral (For more night shots, please have a look at my travelogue "Zagreb by night").

The architecture of the town: Architecture in Zagreb
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Zagreb is packed with architectural interesting sights and buildings. Among the most famous are the two Neo-Gothic bell towers, the Romanesque Lotrscak Tower or the various architectural styles of the buildings surrounding Jelacic Square.
Near the train station are a few more amazing buildings, including the Art-Nouveau style Hotel Esplanade which was built in 1925.

The main attractions: Statues of Zagreb
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Many well worth seeing statues are in and around the city centre of Zagreb. The most famous is probably the horse statue at the Jelacic Square. Other nice statues include August Senoa leaning against an advertisement pillar (at the corner of Vlaska and J. Branjug Street) or St. George on a horse (near Kamenita vrata). Many more can be seen all around the town, so just keep your eyes open ...

    General Tips: Parks of Zagreb
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Many wonderful parks offer good posibilities for a relaxing break in busy Zagreb. The city centre has a horseshoe shaped green lung with some nice fountains and a few interesting buildings.
The Maksimir-Park just northeast of the city centre is the largest park of Zagreb. It covers an area of about 3 square km and includes two lakes and a zoo.

Me again, just taking a look at your updates since September 22, 2004. Last weekend I was in Dresden, where I did a presentation and then went to the opera with german_eagle and Kathrin_E. How are things with you?
