I was in Salzburg on New Years Eve 2000 and in May 2002. The city has about 150.000 inhabitants and is divided by the river Salzach.
Salzburg is surrounded by the Moenchsberg with the Fortress Hohensalzburg on the left bank and by the Kapuzinerberg on the right bank of the river Salzach. The hills offer a panoramic view of the city.
The Old Town with its many churches, markets and the famous narrow shopping lane Getreidegasse is well worth a visit.
