| Vienna - Gateway to Eastern and Central Europe |
Vienna was my travel base for a few days around New Year's Eve 2003/04 and 2005/06. The capital of Austria has approximately 1.6 Million inhabitants. It is situated on the river Danube and only about 50 km away from the Slovakian capital Bratislava.
Due to its long and rich history Vienna offers buildings and churches of almost all architectural styles. As it is also a city of art and culture you will find many museums and cultural venues. The city has a wide variety of cafes, bars, restaurants and and an exciting nightlife to suit all tastes. Visiting a coffee house is an especially Viennese tradition and a custom that shouldn't be missed.
The location at the eastern border of Austria makes Vienna a perfect base for further trips to Eastern and Central European countries such as Slovakia, Czech Republic or Hungary.
"Tradition is not worshipping the ashes, but preserving the fire." --- Gustav Mahler ---
