  • Scottish One Pound note
  • by HORSCHECK

  • Scotland is proud to have its own currency. Three Scottish Banks have the right to print Scottish Pound notes. Only one of them prints a One Pound, note which is the only One Pound note in the UK.
The English notes are valid in Scotland and vice versa. Nevertheless, it is recommended to have Scottish notes when being in Scotland and get rid of them when leaving Scotland to England.
During a train trip from Edinburgh to York I saw an English waiter refusing a Scottish note of a woman who wanted to buy some refreshments ...

    Eating / Drinking: Scottish pubs
  • Tip Rating:
  • For many locals the Scottish pubs are their second home and a perfect place for conversation and the latest gossip.
British Pubs usually don't have a waiter service. You have to go to the bar, buy your drinks and pay immediately after your order.
The beers for sale are either on draught (on tap), in bottles or cans. Famous types of British beers are: Ale, Mild, Bitter and Stout.

    Men In Kilts: Scottish Bagpipes

  • Scotland’s national instrument is the bagpipe, which consists of a chanter and 3 drones. Bagpipe music is often accompanied by drums what makes the sound terrific.
When wandering around the streets of Edinburgh, you will hear many street performers playing bagpipe, especially during the Edinburgh Festival in August.

Eating / Drinking: Fish and Chips
  • Tip Rating:
  • A popular hot take away meal in Britain is Fish and Chips. This tasty combination is usually eaten with salt and vinegar; in Scotland sometimes with a special brown sauce.
The favourite fish is Cod, followed by Haddock and Plaice. Prices are about 1 GBP for the Chips and about 2,50 GBP for the Fish.
