I stayed almost one week in Edinburgh during the famous Edinburgh International Festival in August 1996. Later in 1999 I came across Edinburgh twice by train on another Great Britain trip.
The Scottish capital has about 500.000 inhabitants and is located between sea and hills at the shoreline of the Firth of Forth. Edinburgh's city centre consist of a big New Town and a small Old Town. The Old Town offers many historic buildings along the Royal Mile which ends at the famous castle. Both parts are divided by the green Princes Street Gardens in the city centre.
Edinburgh has many pubs, cafes and restaurants. A lively student scene can be found in and around the Grassmarket area, just south of the Castle Hill.
