During my Great Britain trip in June 1999 I spent some time in York and at the coast of Yorkshire. York is situated at the river Ouse and has about 110.000 inhabitants. It is famous for its Gothic minster and the well preserved city walls.
The town has many churches, museums and historical buildings which can be found in the old part of the city. York's most famous street Shambles is home to historic houses dating back to the 14th and 15th century.
Many traditional pubs, teashops, cafes and restaurants are located within the city walls.
York is well placed for trips to the Yorkshire coast. The holiday resort Scarborough, the maritime town Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and the fishing village Staithes are worth a visit.

Nice place to live, actually....and so is York (though a bit more touristy). J | olja1234 Sun Mar 8, 2009 18:10 UTC Lovely page, and lots of useful tips.
