"Cork - A hilly city" Cork by HORSCHECK
Cork Travel Guide: 574 reviews and 1,441 photos
On my Ireland trip in September 2001 I spent a few days in and around Cork, which is the second-largest town of the Republic of Ireland. It is situated at the channels of the River Lee and is home to about 150.000 people.
Cork has many visitor attractions and excellent public transport connections to the quaint little towns in the surrounding area. The gourmet city Kinsale at the coast, the port Cobh and the touristy Blarney Castle are only a few miles away.
Busy streets with interesting shops, indoor markets, pubs and restaurants are perfect for a stroll in the hilly city centre of Cork.
"The more bright primary colours and ancient celtic symbols outside the pub, the more phoney the interieur."
--- Second Rule of Travel by Pete McCarthy ---
- Pros:Perfect base to explore the scenic county Cork (e.g. Kinsale, Cobh).
- Cons:Weather might be grey and wet, but can change quickly.
- In a nutshell:Busy and vibrant city with plenty to do and see.

Would love to see this place. I see the ruins of James Fort and its Blockhouse would be so delightful. I enjoyed this page. Thanks!
Nice overview of your visit to Cork. Ireland is on my wishlist, maybe 2012 will see us there. :)
Nice page! Actually I watched that Wizzair fly here, so wanted to see how it looks like;) I wonder if there are more interesting tows-villages in Cork county ;)
Have never yet made it to Cork despite many people (and now including you!) telling us how nice it is ;-) Loved "Round Ireland with a fridge" and "McCarthy's Bar" though, and I do enjoy Murphys (and Guinness too!)
I think I will have to try and find the book at my local Library, just the title sounds like a laugh!
Enjoyed your page on Cork Holger. It looks like the best way to visit and see things is just to walk. I think I would enjoy that outdoor market too.
Thanks for the inside scoop on Cork. Enjoyed your tips.
Lived in Cork for a few months when I finished college and regularly visit for nights out with friends and a trip to the English Market. Have to say I much prefer Guinness to Murphy's though...but then again I'm not from Cork ;)
Good travel guide of Cork here, did you meet Katherine there? :) I want to visit Ireland some day too.
Hi Holger, thanks for the impression you gave me of Cork. Very useful for my visit later this month.
