I visited Dublin in August 1995 and in September 2001. Dublin (Irish: Atha Cliath) is a vibrant irish city with almost 1 Million inhabitants.
It is possible to visit the main tourist sights of the city in about one day, but Dublin has to offer much more. It is particulary rich in old buildings with beautiful architecture. It is home to many lively irish pubs where you can enjoy the famous Irish beers (e.g. Guinness, Kilkenny). Last but not least Dublin has excellent shops and fine public parks for a break.
If you stay a couple of days in the city, I recommend to take some trips along the northern or southern coast of Dublin. Pleasant beaches, fishing harbours and mountains are only a short journey by public transport away.
