"Girona - The heart of the Costa Brava region" Girona by HORSCHECK
Girona Travel Guide: 435 reviews and 1,251 photos
In May 2003 I stayed 2 days of my Spain trip in Girona (Catalunya) to visit my VT friend Prunila. Please read my travelogue "Tickets and people" for a personal meeting review.
Girona is located about 100 km northeast of Barcelona. The beautiful medieval city is split by the river Onyar and has about 75.000 inhabitants. The city centre has many narrow cobbled lanes and is bordered by medieval walls with walkways and vantage points. It offers many historic sights like the magnificient cathedral, the church of Sant Feliu or the Jewish quarter. Uncountable cafes, bars and restaurants in the city centre invite for a rest.
Girona is well placed for trips to the Catalan inland (e.g. Figueres with the famous Dali museum) and the scenic Costa Brava with its dramatic coastline and lovely beaches.
"A good holiday is one that is spent among people whose notions of time are vaguer than yours"
--- John Boynton Priestley ---
- Pros:Brilliant place for sightseeing and pleasure.
- Cons:Many buildings are under construction.
- In a nutshell:The catalan medieval city near the Costa Brava.

San Vincente and all Cantabria are nice and outside the touristic crowds of other Spanish coasts but it is often rainy.
Just realized I have never been to Girona.
I'm hoping to get back to Spain next year, we tried for this year but decided on the south of France instead.
I noted that you got to the north, an area we wanted in order to see Dali home and site; but alas, no time. Thanks for viewing Malaga. The last time I was there was 1973, and it had changed a lot. I like the climb to the fortress.
Girona looks attractive and nice...You have visited lots of superb places, Holger! ><><><
City of my style, with quite historical surroundings and I think it is worth visiting it from BCN :) Great page!
Thanks for the nice little tour of Girona - Spain has so many interesting things to see! Loved your Travlogue too, including all the hitches you had regarding tickets and also the strange meal hours!
Holger, thanks for visiting my Cusco page. I enjoyed your Catalunya tips most especially the ones related to Girona, la Costa Brava and the Dali Museum. Would love to explore that part of Spain in the future. Cheers! -Marissa-
Girona does look like a lovely city. Thanks for the virtual tour Holger.
Hi,thank you for visiting my Moscow page!Very interesting tips on this page!Enjoyed to read! Thanks
Looks a lovely city. I like the little medieval alley way and the sound of the river walk and Rambla, and would certainly want to go to Figueres :-)
