Getting TO/AROUND: The International Airport of Madrid (Barajas) is located about 12 km east of the centre. It has a comfortable and frequent Metro connection (No. 8) to Nuevos Ministerios since 1999.

Getting TO/AROUND: I went to Madrid by train (TALGO) from Barcelona. Madrid has 3 train stations: The Charmatin Station is for trains from or to the north (e.g. France or Barcelona). The Atocha Station is for trains to and from the south (e.g. Cordoba or Sevilla). The Principe Pio Station is for local trains.
Depending on the type of train it is necessary to reserve a seat. The train I wanted to take was already booked up, and on the next train was only one seat left which was in fact enough for me ...

Getting TO/AROUND: The Empresa Municipal de Transportes (EMT) is the company of the Madrid bus network. There are more than 180 lines in service between 6:00 a.m. and midnight. Special nightbuses (buhos) operate from midnight to 5:00 a.m.
Two interesting lines are No. 5 which goes from Puerta del Sol via Plaza de Cibeles to Estacion Charmartin; No. 27 operates along the Paseo del Prado and the Paseo de la Castellana.

I was always saving Madrid for when Newcastle might play Real, but that isn't going to happen any time soon, sadly. Thanks for the virtual tour to keep me going till then ;-)

Wonderful Madrid page. We have only seen the inside of its airport, on our way to Malaga. The leaning office building is a modern version of the leaning tower of Pisa. Plaza de Cebeles is indeed impressive.
