In May 2003 I spent 5 days of my Spain trip in Madrid. Madrid is the capital of Spain and has a population of over 3 million. It is located at 654 metres above sea level.
One of the many highlights of this trip was a meeting for Tapas Hopping with the VT gang of Madrid (Madrilenos). See my travelogue "VT Meeting - Friday, May 9th 2003" for more details. The visit of the sold out Estadio Bernabeau for the semifinal of the Championsleague between Real Madrid and Juventus Turin was another gorgeous experience.
The cosmopolitan city is famous for its museums (e.g. Museo del Prado), its lively nightlife and the many green areas (e.g. Parque del Retiro). Moreover Madrid has an interesting mixture of old and new architecture. Uncountable bars and cafes invite for Tapas meals. These little dishes are typical in Spain and offer a good opportunity to taste the local specialities.

toonsarah Thu Jul 2, 2009 17:07 UTC I was always saving Madrid for when Newcastle might play Real, but that isn't going to happen any time soon, sadly. Thanks for the virtual tour to keep me going till then ;-) | LoriPori Tue Nov 11, 2008 12:25 UTC Wonderful Madrid page. We have only seen the inside of its airport, on our way to Malaga. The leaning office building is a modern version of the leaning tower of Pisa. Plaza de Cebeles is indeed impressive. | yumyum Sat Jan 6, 2007 20:10 UTC Lovely page! Maybe I should go there one day! | Kuznetsov_Sergey Wed Jun 7, 2006 12:41 UTC Hi, Holger! Your Madrid-page is great as well as Barcelona. Thanks for sharing. |
