A few days before christmas 2002 I stayed 4 days in Florence. The city is located at the river Arno and has a population of 450.000. It is an all-year-round destination.
If you are into art, history, culture and architecture then Florence is definitely the place to visit. The main tourist attractions include the famous cathedral (Duomo) with the campanile and baptistry, the art gallery Uffizi and the Ponte Vecchio. Apart from that Florence has many street and indoor markets and it offers a big variety of cafes and restaurants for all budgets.
Florence can be used as a kind of base for exploring the Tuscany. The public transport is frequent and affordable for daytrips to the surrounding towns like Pisa or Siena.
