Pizzeria Ai Sportivi and other Venice, Italy Restaurant Reviews

Pizzeria Ai Sportivi seems to be one of the hundred places in Venice with the best pizza, but for me it looks like Ai Sportivi really deserves a visit.

It is in fact my favourite place among the three Pizzerias I visited in Venice during my two stays in the city.

Their pizzas are delicious, huge and inexpensive; Ai Sportivi even doesn't charge for cover and service (coperto, servici) which seems to be hard to find in the centre of Venice.

Directions: The Pizzeria Ai Sportivi is located in the Dorsoduro district at the southern end of the Campo Santa Margerita. It has both inside and outside tables.

One evening on my trip in May 2005 I met VT member jessica-b for dinner. We decided to go to Pizzeria Da Sandro which was a recommendation of our VT friend sue_stone.

If the Pizzeria had been crap, we could have blamed her instead of us. But no worries, like all her tips this place was well worth a 5 star rating.

The Pizzeria offers great Italian atmosphere in a small room. Jessica and me had delicious pizzas and two different big beers.

Unfortunately, the knives were a bit blunt so that we ate the Pizza partly with our hands.

Prices are relatively cheap for Venice, even though 1,80 Euro for the cover (coperto) was added to the bill.

Directions: Da Sandro is located in the San Polo district of Venice. From the Campo San Polo walk east towards Campiello dei Meloni where it is located on either side of the street. The Pizzeria is on the right side, whereas a trattoria and bar are on the left side.

This fabulous ice cream place is often frequented by my VT friend sue_stone.

Always when she is in Venice she seems to pop by a few times per day.

Jessica_b, sue_stone and me went here together after the Euro VT meeting in Verona in May 2005. Their ice cream is indeed delicious.

The balls are quite huge, so it is recommended to take them in a plastic cup instead of a cone. So if the ice cream starts melting, it won't spill down your lovely clothes.
