  • Favorite Thing: The Canale Grande is the most famous waterstreet in Venice. It meanders more than 3,5 km through all six districts of the historic centre. Only three bridges cross the Canale Grande. A trip with the vaporetti (water busses) #1 or #82 from the train station (Ferrovia) to St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) offers scenic views of the historic facades along the Canale Grande.

  • Favorite Thing: Most historic sights and squares of Venice are beautifully illuminated at night. In the centre the sights at St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) and the Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore are well worth seeing. I would recommend a trip with the night vaporetto #N along the Canale Grande in darkness.

  • Favorite Thing: Due to its changing history, Venice is packed with various worth seeing architectural buildings. Italian, Arabic and Byzantine styles are representing the city. So keep your eyes open when making your way through the labyrinth of alleys and canals.

  • Favorite Thing: Venice has innumerable churches. The most famous is of course the St. Mark's Basilica, but there are many interesting, lesser known churches.
One afternoon a VT friend of mine and me wandered around the Cannareggio and Castello district and we had a look at the Baroque style Jesuits' Church, the Dominican Church Santi Giovanni e Paolo and the Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli which represents the Venetian Renaissance style.

Me again, just having a look at your updates since last February. Great that you were able to meet up with such lovely VT members at Ai Sportivi and Da Sandro.

Great page Holger = I can see myself getting lost in Venice's back streets so I wouldn't need a map
