Welcome to Görlitz

by yumyum - last update: Apr 20, 2008

We came to Goerlitz on Easter Saturday on a day trip by train from Dresden. I liked Goerlitz very much and wouldn't mind to return in the warm season.

The Silesian Goerlitz came to Sachsen in 1945 while the other side of the Neisse river became Zgorzelec in Poland.

There IS a Jewish community! Small, but interesting, and they're working on a renovation of the synagogue. It's called "Jüdische Gemeinde Görlitz" - very helpful! Alex Jacobowitz

Looks like a lovely place! Only passed through on my way to Wroclaw. Should visit next time, especially since one of my ancestors had the last name "Görlitz" (Gerlitz in Polish spelling)! :-)

Great looking Jugendstil railway station! But it's too bad they only use six tracks out of the original twelve. Thanks for including a tip on the bicycle paths and signs.

Very good page, Sonja. Enjoyed your comments on Görlitz. Yup, Silesian Bratwurst is a bit different, lol.
