Herscheid lies in the Nature Park Ebbegebirge (Ebbe mountains). It is surrounded by foresty hills of the Sauerland.

It's 12 km from Lüdenscheid, where you find the nearest railway station which connects you by local train to Hagen on the ICE line.

The whole area of Herscheid which not only includes Herscheid itself but other villages as well is 58.91 square kilometers. The lowest point is about 250 meters above sea level and the highest 663 m.

About 58 % of the area is forest, about 34 % farm land and 0.42 % water.
There are 226 km hiking paths.

The town itself is neat with almost all individual houses and villas. All the major facilities are available.

Hi Sonja, I enjoyed reading your Herscheid tips. Like all places ending in –scheid, this looks like a really nice area. I was interested to learn that Napoleon ordered the building of a tower for use in his mirror telegraph system. Thanks again for the two photos – I have used them in two of my new Paris tips.

Great Herscheid travel page with stunning photographs and excellent travel tips especially on restaurants and transportation. Apostelchurch, Spieker, Oestertal Dam and tv tower attract us the most. Thanks for the virtual tower. ~ho & pang

View on the Verse is awesome - what a neat place to visit! And the Robert-Kolb-Turm tower looks interesting - but I think I will stay more at the Italian Gelato place that they have, hehehe...wonderful scenery! those poisonous mushrooms - nice RED color!
