I first travelled through Chop in May 2004 on the night train from Budapest to Lviv. That time it was dark and I didn't see anything at all.
On my second visit in May 2007 I was able to explore it a bit as our carriage had to wait for 5 hours for the Uzhhorod-Kiev train.
Chop was for centuries a Hungarian town before it was taken over by the Soviets and eventually became an Ukrainian border town with Hungary and Slovakia. |

budapest8 Sat Nov 17, 2007 00:22 UTC Hi Sonja, interesting tips. I wondered if you remember what u paid for your train tickets? I have a friend travelling to Odessa next week so wondered if you remember?? Thanks..Tim | Kuznetsov_Sergey Mon Jul 9, 2007 14:50 UTC Your page reminded me 1968, when I had a chance to visit Chop with very short stop when we traveled around Zakarpatje. Changing bogeys is a fascinating procedure. I've seen it on the Byelorussia-Poland border. Thanks, Sonja! | Trekki Sun Jun 24, 2007 07:27 UTC Oha, Soviet style, how good that I saw a lot of that in Central Asia already, otherwise it would freak me a bit. The town looks lovely though, at least with the flowers :-) | Raimix Tue Jun 19, 2007 18:45 UTC Hey! I loved that Soviet style border station paintings. I think in Lithuania such paintings could be removed. |
