Vienna Hotel Tips by yumyum

I had a single room with my own bathroom and fridge. It was excellent.

Since it's a student house, it's only open in July and August. They have dormitories too. There is a kitchen facility. My room was facing out to the back and was therefore very quiet.

The room cost Euro 35 in August 2006. Free internet, if it works. Drink machine. Left luggage for free but anyone can walk into the luggage room.

The hostel is located within short walking distance from the Westbahnhof.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the room. The building from outside is non-descript.

On my recent visit in July 2008 I decided to check out another hostel with single rooms. This time I chose Red Carpet Hostel which is bascially just around the corner from the Strawberry Youth Hostel.

Attention:
This hostel is only open in July and August each year as it is student accomodation for the rest of the year!

Red Carpet hostel has very friendly staff. There is a small common room with a TV. Internet costs 1 Euro for 20 minutes and there is only one computer and you need to put your name down on a list. There are very small and small lockers for your valuables if you stay in a dormitory for around 3 Euro. This hostel has a bar on the ground floor which also hosts theme nights. There is a kitchen if you want to do self-catering.

I had a single room with ensuite toilet/shower. Please note that you have to bring your own towel and soap. The room was spacious and there is a fridge too. No TV!

I was unfortunate as my room was on the frist floor just about above the hostel entrance. I couldn't leave the window open due to noise of meeting, yelling travellers and car engines running. Also the first night I was there they had a Salsa night in the bar which I heard extremely well. So bring your earplugs or choose another place to stay.

In July 2008 I paid 39 Euro for a Thursday night and 42 Euro for a Friday night. No breakfast included.

There is a key deposit of 50 Euro or a personal ID card.

Unique Qualities: The furninishing have seen better days but are entirely adequat for a hostel. The place is clean but obviously you can see the wear and tear. The carpet squares on the floor do not invite bare feet. But with my VT flip flops I had no problems.

The hostel is very well located within a short walking distance to the Westbahnhof.
