We made a rushed trip to Pisa from Firenze, to see its wonder of the world.
Firenze to Pisa is onnly one hour by train and thanks to our Eurail, we travelled free. A helpful co-passenger suggested we get off at Pisa San Rossore before Pisa Centrale which was 5 mins to Campo Dei Miracoli. We walked through what seemed like a totally residential area and then around a corner, saw the Leaning Tower. Its much smaller than what it seems in pictures.
There are a few trailers selling paninis and gelato outside the complex and lots of tour buses parked.
The buildings and tower are beautiful and the tower is really really really bent down! It seems so impossible and you stare at it wondering how its been done.
On one side of the complex inside there is a line of souvenir shops with tons of take home things.
We met so many Indians from a tour group there and exchanged tips and views etc. Of course I did the complete touristy thing and got my picture taken in front of the Tower and holding it up.
Outside the complex, there are buses to Pisa Centrale from where we caught our train to Rome.
Many people do Firenze and Pisa together, but we had to return to Rome that night.
The train journey was beautiful, almost all of it was along the Mediterranean coastline with beautiful views and boats and small coastside towns, and Im very glad we took it though it was 3.5 hours to Rome as against Firenze -Rome time of 1.5 hours.
Whoever visits Firenze, must go to Pisa since its so close and the Tower is worth seeing.
