I came to Belize to leave modernity and all her crooked ways behind; to take a great deep breath and blow the city from my nostrils. I had watched my dogs do it many times before. They would curiously bound and sniff through the neighborhood and, whenever they tired of that which they had found, with a great huff blow the old scents out and gain a fresh perspective.
I came to Belize with a yearning to replace the chaos of man's making with the chaos that only nature could provide. I wanted to escape the corporate structure, the blinding mediocrity, the Mclife - bottled and boxed and packaged and sold at your corner store for just three easy instalments. I didn't want a simpler life. I didn't want a better life. I just wanted a new perspective.
On the day I bought my tickets my heart leapt. No Christmas from my childhood was ever so captivating as those days and weeks leading to my departure. On the day I left, my yearnings were rewarded.
