For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move.

Just a stone's throw....

Cabo harbour/marina

... away from la Manga

We initially went to Cabo de Palos as it has a huge market on a Sunday. It was on the ‘net and also in the information pack we got at the apartment we rented for a week.

Parking is a matter of spotting a free space on the sidewalk (!) or in the kerb. Luckily for us we were able to park within easy walking distance, perhaps a benefit of having a Ford Ka as the rental car.

The market isn’t particularly for tourists, although you will see and hear plenty of them. Most of the visitors are locals and other Spanish. The market covers two long streets and a square at the far end from the road, the number of fruit and vegetable sellers, shoe stalls and clothes stalls has to be seen for those of us robbed of such places in our increasingly consumer oriented and big business controlled world in the UK and no doubt in the rest of the old “Western” areas.

Harbour

The village itself is clustered around the harbour that has its collection of fishing boats and also acts as a marina for the pleasure boats of the tourists.

Also, there are a number of diving schools dotted about and their boats are seen in and out all during the day.
Cabo beach

... small beach

To the side of the harbour is a small shallow area of sea protected by an ageing boom that keeps it warm and shallow and excellent for kiddies and older people to paddle and to watch the tiny fish swimming about.

Also excellent to help cool off after a hard day at the market or simply enduring the 30°C heat of the day...

Mad dogs and Englishmen.....
