I don't know what I was expecting Kaikoura to be like, but when the rain FINALLY stopped and the mountains appeared behind the rain clouds dusted in snow, I wasn't quite prepared with how splendid things had become!!
As it states in the leaflet; visitors, like sheep, 'flock to the area', taking centre stage following the whalers exit. Maybe its because of the snow-capped mountains, the beautiful rugged coastline and the deep, deep, ocean (thanks to the continental shelf) and all the wonderful life that flourishes throughout; many species of dolphins and whales, seals, albatrosses, penguins, sharks and much more - many you can swim alongside (or hide from!).

fine stories...Maui fished a little more north :-)) I am often in Kaikoura, great place to be!!
