Ireland - My new home

by Krumel - last update: Sep 27, 2003

The Hill of Tara
Ireland has always been of particular interest to me and was my favourite holiday destination for more than 10 years. I am not quite sure what it is that draws so many Germans to Ireland. Maybe it is that the wild and desolate places along the West coast are a nice change to all the neatly cultivated fields in Germany. Maybe it is the more easy-going atmosphere in Ireland. In Germany I often have the feeling that everybody you meet is on their way to or from work. In Dublin I usually think that everybody is off to somewhere exciting (probably the nearest pub).

In 1999 I decided I might just as well live there, and now instead of having to wait for my next holidays I can now pop down to Galway for a weekend, make a daytrip to Newgrange or visit my friends here whenever I fancy.

Ireland has changed a lot from when I first visited it in 1989. With the recent economic boom, the "Celtic Tiger", it has developed from one of Europeīs poorer countries to one of its more prosperous, but it is still a very charming country full of friendly people, great pubs, spellbinding legends and breathtaking landscapes.

My pages and travelogues about Ireland are currently under construction, and there will be more infos added soon. They will reflect my personal impressions of Ireland, and my own favourite places, and while something can be one personīs paradise it can be another personīs hell. I am very fond of old heaps of stones in all shapes and forms, and as you find lots of these all over Ireland you will also find them all over my pages.

I hope you will enjoy my roundtrip through Ireland.

This is a great Ireland page--wonderful overview! I love how you have it broken down by counties...and even a tip on my family's home county of Tyrone--the first tip I've seen on it! --Katey
