Marburg is about an hour's drive away from Hesborn, where I grew up. They have one of the biggest hospitals in the area, and we usually only ever went there if someone was sick. And as the clinic is a couple of kilometres away from the city centre we never really bothered going into the town itself.

Marburg's Altstadt

But when I had a visitor over from Ireland we eventually took the time to have a look around Marburg, and it was well worth the visit. Especially the Altstadt (old part of the town) is very charming, with narrow streets winding up to the castle on top of a hill.

In that particular area you find many of the old houses with wooden beams along their facades and other elaborate decorations.

What a lovely page and great pictures! I didn´t know that there exists also a Marburg in Germany! When hearing about Marburg I always have to think to "Maribor" in Slovenia which is also Marburg in german....
